The Oyo State government will prosecute environmental offenders from February 1.
The government listed offences as indiscriminate refuse dumping, street trading, air pollution, illegal erection of structures on set back roads, among others.
Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources Isaac Ishola and Commissioner for Information and Culture Toye Arulogun said this in Ibadan yesterday.
According to Ishola, “The in-house studies of residents have shown that neither poverty, ignorance nor low educational status is solely responsible but a clear attitudinal indiscipline, and from February 1, we shall wage war against such offenders.
“ No person shall discard, throw or drop refuse anywhere except in designated liter bins. No owner, operator, occupant or person in care, management or control of premises shall allow the release of litter into the environment.
“No occupant or passenger of any vehicle shall throw or drop any litter onto the streets, roads, highways, public spaces and other undesignated places. No person shall build kiosk or shop on road median, drainages or road setbacks,” Ishola said.
He added that the government has approved the establishment of two mobile courts and environmental tribunals.
