Ambode: Lagos Needs N60bn To Reposition Schools

Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode yesterday revealed that Lagos will need a minimum of N60billion to be able to put the state’s schools back on track.

Also, Ambode said that his administration would consolidate on its infrastructural renewal drive with the construction of 181 local government roads in the current fiscal year, saying the process for the award of the contract would commence next week.

He spoke at the first Quarterly Town Hall Meeting for 2017, the sixth in a series, held at the Ajelogo Housing Scheme, Ajelogo Market Road, Akanimodo, Mile 12, said the 181 roads, was an improvement on the 114 roads, two in each local government, which his administration promised to embark upon every year.

He explained that his administration decided to increase the number of roads for construction in each local councils from two to three due to the discovery that some of the ones that were constructed last year did not help improve the traffic flow within their environ because they were not linking the major roads.

The governor, who also listed a number of projects that had been executed, those ongoing and new ones, expressed optimism that 2017 will bring succour and new opportunities that would foster prosperity for Lagos State and all its residents.

The governor further said that the state would establish bus terminals and depots in Yaba, Ikeja, Oyingbo, Anthony, Ketu and Toll Gate, besides the full take-off of BRT along Abule-Egba-Oshodi axis.

In the last quarter, Ambode also said that the state government has identified 500 pre-qualified applicants in the state’s home ownership mortgage scheme otherwise known as Lagoshoms.

The governor, who described the scheme as the state’s quest to address housing deficit in the state, said that that the newly established “Rent-To-Own and Rental Housing Policy” was meant to provide affordable housing units across the three Senatorial Districts.

Ambode said: “There are presently 4,355 units available with over 500 applicants prequalified so far and allocation will commence next week.”
